If a menu bar items position had not been changed by the user, and was still the default Bartender wouldn't hide it, this has been fixed. For some users, macOS would occasionally lose the order of their menu items. In this release Bartender has extra workarounds to prevent this. On macOS Catalina if the user hid the Bartender menu item a gap would be left on the inactive menu bar of a multi screen setup. This has now been fixed. A bug in macOS Catalina would prevent Bartenders menu showing when the user has 2 screens setup with one above the other.

Bartender now works around this bug to display the menus on all screens. Apps starting with a lowercased name would appear after all uppercased names in Bartender Preferences, this has been fixed. After changing space, Bartender would require activating full menu bar 3 times before working this has been fixed.

For some users when starting Bartender at login, the permissions success window would show. We receive occasional crash reports of a crash we have not seen here, we believe this build fixes the crash. Multipass has an uncommon app setup, which Bartender didn't handle. Bartender will now handle apps like this correctly. With macOS As such Bartender did not know to treat it as a special Apple item and name it as such in Bartender preferences.

For some users, macOS would occasionally loose the order of their menu items. This release fully supports macOS Catalina and will now ask the user for the new "Screen Recording" permission required for Bartender to work. Bartender does not record your screen, and does not save or transmit these images. If the user clicked to open system preferences, Bartender may not be listed in Screen Recording, this has been fixed. There is a bug in macOS that can cause Accessibility permissions to fail for an app, even though it has been setup correctly and is reported as such.

Bartender now tries to detect this and help the user fix the issue by toggling the permission. There is a another bug in macOS that can cause menu items to appear overlapped and loose their order, Bartender has always tried to detect this and recover the positioning but not the order , some users are experiencing the order of their items being lost, Changes have been made to try and prevent this.

The permissions screens had layout issues in macOS version older than Some users have experienced issues with the left menu not being hidden when needed, work has been done to fix this. Apps that do not have a display name could end up without a name in Bartender Preferences, this has now been fixed.

There is a another bug in macOS that can cause menu items to appear overlapped and loose their order, Bartender has always tried to detect this and recover the positioning but not the order , some users are experiencing the order of there items being lost, Changes have been made to try and prevent this.

On macOS Catalina, Bartender was not getting added to the screen capture list in preferences before prompting the user, this has been fixed. We receive occasional crash reports of a crash we have not seen here, this build now has fixes to hopefully prevent the crash, or give us some more information about it. If you have autohide menu bar set in macOS or are in a fullscreen app, Bartender can now display the menu bar when activated via hotkey.

Little Snitch now allows applications to declare the connections they make and why, giving users better insight into what an app is doing. Bartender now supports this. We now take this into account and Bartender should not autohide when a iStat Menus items popup is dismissed. In macOS Mojave with autohide menu bar enabled there is a bug that will hide the menu bar when a menu items position is changed, this would cause the menu bar to hide when a user clicked on Bartender to show hidden items.

Bartender will now keep the menu bar visible. The spotlight window could get dismissed when menu items showed for updates, this has been fixed. In macOS Mojave the location menu item has changed its behaviour, and will now forget its position whenever it leaves the menu bar. This, along with settings in Bartender to hide the location menu item would cause Bartender to move it every time it showed. Some users with larger setups many menu items, multiple screens etc.

Some apps not in a bundle format have a different signing ID to there executable name, this would prevent Bartender being able to control them. This has been fixed. Due to an odd behaviour by an Apple framework, show for updates could think there was a change when the user has mutiple monitors setup in a specific way, this has been worked around.

In macOS High Sierra, Previous test builds have a fix for iStat Menus, this didn't take into account the app store version of iStat Menus, this has been fixed. Some users with larger setups may menu items multiple screens etc could experience slower transitions, this build contains changes to try and improve this.

We now take this into account and Bartender should not autohide when a iStat menus items popup is dismissed. Some users with bigger systems could experience slow transitions, this build contains changes to try and improve this. In macOS Mojave Bartender 3 will prompt for accessibility authorization. It has support for dark mode, has hardened runtime enabled and is notarized for added security. Some new users found some UI labels confusing, we have reworded them to try and help with this, please let us know if this helps or not.

We are aware of this, and currently it appears to be a macOS Mojave Beta issue, we will monitor this and fix when appropriate. This test build will prompt for accessibility authorization and not crash when its not authorized. It has initial support for dark mode, hardened runtime enabled and is notarized.

Bartender 3 will now ask for Accessibility Authorization and will not crash when it does not have authorization. We are aware of this, and currently it appears to me a macOS Mojave Beta issue, we will monitor this and fix when appropriate. Bartender will show the crash reporter if the previous version crashed before launching this version, this is not the current version crashing, just reporting the previous crash.

Bartender 3 has been rewritten for modern macOS. Using the latest technologies and best practices Bartender 3 is more reliable, capable and lays the foundation for future innovations. Bartender 3 has been completely rewritten from the ground up in Swift using best practices to work with modern macOS, it also paves the way for many new features we have planned.

The biggest change is we no longer require a helper to be installed in menu item apps to control them. This means we no longer do anything that SIP System Integrity Protection is interested in and can work with any menu bar app including those with increased security Such as Apple System items.

What this does now mean though is that Bartender is no longer able to display the Bartender Bar beneath the menu bar but instead displayed it in the main menu bar removing normally shown items to display the Bartender Bar items.

Full macOS High Sierra compatibility. We did consider calling it High Bartender but thought better of it.

We are still working on improving this. Small things, such as typo fixes and better explanations. Added remove button for menu item settings. Airplay Display could still change position if set to "Always show in menu bar" this has been fixed. Apps that do not have a process name in a localisation would not be controlled by Bartender, this has been fixed. It was possible for Bartender to deactivate the screen saver if manually activated. But only in the initial 40 seconds.

It was possible for Bartender to show show for update items when activating another screen, this has been improved, but is still possible in some specific situations, this will be fixed in a coming update. It was possible for Bartender to not be able to control Amphetamine in some setups, we have worked around this. If you pressed the search hotkey more than once the menu would reappear for each extra hotkey press. For a few users, Notification Center could sometimes activate by mistake, this should now be fixed.

Bartender 3 would not work on a RTL setup mac, as all logic assumed menu items on the right of the screen, this is a initial attempt at adding RTL support. Some apps have old preferences remaining from previous versions etc, Bartender now better detects this correctly. Autohide would only trigger on mouse events, we now also autohide when a new app becomes active say via keyboard app switching.

Bartender checks for items removed by menu bar apps, but was producing some false positives in some situations, causing items to not be shown, we have improved on this. Pressing esc while searching will now exit search and reset the menu bar, pressing enter will start keyboard navigation. Other icon options now display a variation of the icon when Bartender is showing Bartender items in the menu bar.

For some users Bartender would not always expand the menu bar when needed remove the left menu so all items could be seen this is now fixed. For a small number of users, items can become messed up in the menu bar, not aligned to each other correctly we are investigating the cause still. With this version Bartender should be able to reset them.

Bartender 3 license checking is a bit more stringent than Bartender 2, if a user had trailing white space in there license name from Bartender 2 it would fail to verify in Bartender 3. Version 1. Version 72 of PIA is compatible with Bartender 3, we have updated the message shown for older versions of PIA, letting them know if they update it will work.

Bartender was not checking to see if another version of Bartender may be running, this has been fixed. Bartender 3 3. With previous versions there was a bug that would effect setups with multiple screens items out of position, showing as not working, slow transitions , this should now be fixed.

We recommend restarting macOS after updating if you use multiple screens. Some users have been experiencing items not keeping their position especially AirPlay Display , this version should improve on this, if not totally fix it, we are still working on getting this spot on.

When Bartenders menu item was hidden the search menu would not display correctly, this has been fixed. Previously if you have the Bartender menu item hidden, you could not quit Bartender, we added in a Quit button to the About Preferences tab. Some users have been experiencing items not keeping there position especially Air Display , this version should improve on this, if not totally fix it, we are still working on getting this spot on. This has been improved and should now reliably remove the left menu when needed to show all Bartender Bar items.

Also added an Advanced setting to disable this. This is a Beta release, so if you experience anything unusual, please do let us know.
